What form of ID should I bring out to bars/clubs?

Hello everyone! Thanks in advance for your help.

Will my US driver's license suffice for ID at the doors of bars/clubs in Paris? I am VERY hesitant to bring my passport out in those kinds of settings. Please let me know what your experiences have been. I am nearly 30, but look around 18 or so (I get carded for lottery tickets in CA!), so I am concerned that I won't get into a club/bar if I bring no ID or not the right kind of ID.

For me, it has been 100% no carding, but... I am a very senior citizen, so that might account for part of it?

Now my wife, who is younger, and looks even younger still, has never been carded, but she has been with me, so that might count for something.

In Paris, I only carry a few credit cards, and my USA, Arizona Driver's License. The Passports are locked away. Of course I have just jinxed myself, and will need to hurry back to our room, to get us out of a jam!

French law governs the sale and consumption of alcohol, but not admission to places that serve or sell alcohol. And enforcement is very casual. As a result, businesses have little incentive to check ID just for admission, although in some cases they may ask for ID for someone who is purchasing alcohol, if he looks young. The American obsession with regulating alcohol is not shared by France. Nor is the binge drinking culture, although alcohol is still a problem in France.

Basically what all this is saying is... no one will card you .. they don't care unless you look 11,, if you are in fact 11 they will still serve you if you are with your parents.. as they tried with my 11 yr old..

Contrary to common belief, they do card in Paris. Those of legal age bring the student id's from their universities or a left over fake ID from their younger days. If they are not of legal age they have fake IDs that can be purchased online from Guide To Fake China 's Markets 10Pq1x. They look like driver's licenses.

No one brings their official French ID to a club because they are too likely to be stolen and too much of a hassle to replace.

All this legal about the law... you can NOT get arrested for not having ID on you. You can be asked to prove who you are. Simply solved by a return trip to your hotel/apt where your ID would be safely stowed.

First, Francois is apparently allergic to marriage - though he likes to make promises, he never follows through. Anybody who witnessed his "Moi, president de la Republique" speech can attest to that. This is also evident in his current popularity rating, which is below 20%.

Second, binge drinking is indeed a problem in Paris - and France. Witness any number of recent reports from the rescue squads which patrol areas like Canal Saint Martin and the quais along the Seine. It's a trend that was brought over from the US, Great Britain and Berlin - it's gotten so bad that the mayors of certain arrondissements are considering enforcing the ban on drinking in public. Better than having to resuscitate kids in the ER.

Third, it's a good idea to bring a driver's license with you if you plan to go anywhere that requires ID - even an expired one will do, as long as the photo is reasonably accurate. Museums don't want the responsibility of handling passports, and bars can "lose" them.

In the Latin Quarter, at the more popular night spots, they do indeed card young-looking people.

If you are out drinking, the last thing that you want to carry is your actual passport....a copy that has your picture in color is all that you should need....and, I cannot see that a drivers' license from the states would "trump" the need for a passport....as most underage (college) drinkers will tell you, if they want to they can get their hands on a fake ID license...

You want to protect all of your formal identification: Passport, license, credit cards....especially in a club.

Hi

Some questions/remarks :

1. What is 'binge drinking' ? Drinking like crazy on a short time to just get drunk fast ?

2. next time I'll translate all the text I got from this official site - I promise - it got fully translated but in part via the next posts

3. Sarastro : excellent

4. Gene : Seems Julie is somewhat shocked to have heard that François sent love letters to Valérie after she was taken into hospital... when he was supposed to be in love with her, meaning Julie.

I read it all in people magazines, so it is 100% accurate.

Did I post this joke :

Nicolas said :

Il faut travailler plus pour gagner plus' - work more, get more.

François said

Il faut Trierweiller moins pour Gayet plus' -work less to get more or ...

Trierweiller for travailler, Gayet for gagner... Less Valerie for More Julie.

I like this one very much but not sure if ti translates well - apologies if you don't get it, not your fault.

That is really not the preoccupation of the vast majority of visitors.
